Last year’s tourney was by far the most predictable of the 64/65-team era. There were only three legitimate upsets, the higher seed prevailed in nearly every game, and there wasn’t a single Cinderella. So why did the 2007 tourney create so much turmoil in the rankings of the best tourney teams?
The top 10 winningest schools in the last 23 years are a dominant bunch. They’ve combined to win 410 games—28% of the 1449 games played, including 15 of 23 championships. Despite their dominance, however, the top 10 underwent a seismic power shift after 2007 tourney.
